Afenifere urges release of Fani-Kayode
Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has called for the immediate release of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It also asked that he should be charged to court immediately if there was a charge against or be freed unconditionally in the absence of any.
The anti-graft agency had obtained a court order to keep in custody the 2015 presidential campaign spokesman to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan pending the conclusion of his probe on some alleged fraud cases before a formal arraignment in court.
A statement by Afenifere’s spokesman, Yinka Odumakin said: “We are being told that EFCC is planning to get another detention order to continue his incarceration.
“We are at a loss as to why EFCC announce to the whole world that he committed a crime by collecting funds for campaign and hold him for five weeks without charging him to court.”
