After El-Classico match, man kills friend in Kano
A man on Saturday night stabbed his friend to death and injured one other while arguing about a concluded football match. The incident happened at about 11:21p.m. at Yakassai quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of the Kano State.
The El-Classico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona ended 1-0 in favour of Barcelona on Saturday night. Just as an intense rivalry exists between the two Spanish big teams, so it does sometimes exist among their supporters.
After the match, an argument ensued between Abdullahi Haruna and his friend, Mujitapha Musa, about the game. Details of the argument were sketchy but the police spokesperson in Kano, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, told newsmen that during the argument, the suspect stabbed his friend on the chest with a knife and another person, one Suleiman Muhammad, on the knee.
Haruna said Musa was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano but was pronounced dead by a doctor. The other victim is however responding to treatment at the same hospital.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was arrested with the knife and will be charged to court after completion of investigation.
In the same state, the police have also arrested two suspects, Kamalu Musa and another simply called Babangida, both residents of Shekar Maidaki Quarters in Kano, for allegedly stabbing a man to death.
DSP Haruna disclosed yesterday that the incident occurred on February 27, while the victim, Adamu Bala who resided in Bubugaje area of Shekar Maidaki Quarters Kano, was saying his prayers at a block industry. “The suspects attacked and stabbed the victim to death with a knife,” the PPRO said.
Meanwhile, a generating set repairer, Chinedu Igboanugo, was at the weekend, killed by two armed robbers at Nkwelle-Ogidi community, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The suspects were also said to have stabbed the girlfriend to death.
It was gathered that the deceased was asleep with his girlfriend while his generating set was still on. The power supply was said to have suddenly went off at about 12:30a.m. which prompted the girlfriend to rush outside to know what was amiss.
According to a neighbour who preferred anonymity, “as she came out, she met two armed robbers who stopped the generator from supplying power to enable them strike. They immediately stabbed her on her arm and she raised the alarm, which attracted Igboanugo. As soon as he came out, the robbers pounced on him and inflicted several stabbings on him.”
The suspects then took to their heels, leaving the victim unconscious in the pool of his blood. Confirming the incident, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, Mark Ijarafu, said: “One of the armed robbers is with us. We are looking for the other fleeing armed robber.”
