Sanni calls for emergency summit to address rising fuel prices, cost of living

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for Lagos Mainland, Olatunji Sanni

The Federal House of Representatives candidate on the platform of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Lagos Mainland, Olatunji Sanni, has called on the National Assembly to consider an emergency resolution to temporarily suspend taxes on petroleum products as part of efforts to ease the rising cost of living.

Sanni also called for a reduction in the price of crude oil supplied to the Dangote Refinery in exchange for a corresponding reduction in the prices of refined petroleum products sold to consumers.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to address the rising cost of energy products, warning that the increasing prices of petrol, kerosene and aviation fuel are placing additional pressure on households, businesses and the wider economy.

According to Sanni, the rising cost of energy is contributing to inflationary pressures across the country, with low-income Nigerians bearing a disproportionate share of the burden.

He called for an emergency national summit involving the Federal Government, the National Assembly, relevant industry stakeholders and other concerned parties to develop practical and immediate measures to address the situation.

Sanni stressed the need for urgent intervention to reduce the burden of energy costs on Nigerians and help protect vulnerable households from further economic hardship.
