Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, has promised to introduce an African perspective to Silicon Valley and shape conversations driving the next generation of global technology.
Agboola made the promise after he was named a member of the Silicon Valley and The World Advisory Board’s Founders Council, joining a select group of global entrepreneurs and business leaders helping shape dialogue around technology, artificial intelligence, and its growing impact on economies and societies.
Silicon Valley and The World is a first-of-its-kind, multi-year initiative connecting the leaders building transformative technologies with the policymakers shaping their deployment. Launched by Semafor, this initiative is co-chaired by prominent figures in the tech industry, including Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA; Divesh Makan, Partner at ICONIQ Capital; Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft; Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google; and Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices.
Agboola joins the expanded Global Advisory Board, which includes more than 50 global figures identified for their role in building businesses and technologies influencing the next phase of global innovation.
Speaking on the appointment, Agboola said: “From early digital wallets to complex, cross-border financial infrastructure, technology has completely transformed how global economies grow, how businesses compete, and how people participate in the global economy. Across Accra, Cairo, Lagos, Nairobi, and Johannesburg, innovators are actively building world-class platforms, infrastructure, and enterprises right on the continent. I look forward to bringing an African perspective to Silicon Valley & The World and shaping the conversations driving the next generation of global technology.”
Agboola’s appointment reflects his growing role in international discussions around technology, economic policy, and governance. It builds on an established track record of global board leadership, including his role as Vice Chair of the U.S.-Africa Business Center Board of Directors at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, alongside board positions at the Corporate Council on Africa, Endeavor Nigeria, Lagoon Hospitals, and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art Advisory Board.
Under Agboola’s leadership, Flutterwave has evolved from a payments gateway into a global financial infrastructure platform, surpassing $50 billion in processing volume across more than one billion transactions and raising its valuation to $3.2 billion following a Series E round with strategic investments from Ripple and Circle.
Earlier this year, the company further deepened its infrastructure by securing a Nigerian Microfinance Bank license, acquiring open banking platform Mono, and launching stablecoin-powered and multi-currency settlement rails designed to connect African commerce to the global economy.
Beyond Flutterwave, Agboola continues to support Africa’s technology ecosystem through Resilience17 (R17), his venture studio and early-stage investment platform focused on backing emerging founders and technology businesses across the continent.
