Lagos Gets Seven New Police Divisions

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh has called for cooperation from stakeholders as Tijani Olayiwola Fatai assumes office as the new Commissioner of Police (CP) in Lagos State.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, becomes the 42nd CP in Lagos, taking over from Jimoh, who has now been redeployed to head Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

Jimoh had assumed office in February 2025, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, after serving 21 weeks in the state.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Jimoh expressed confidence in his successor’s capacity and urged residents and stakeholders to support the new CP.
“I have no doubt in the new CP’s capacity. As I move on, I urge all stakeholders to cooperate with him,” he said.

He noted that the security situation in Lagos improved significantly during his one year and one month in office, adding that the state government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, enhanced the welfare of officers.

“The Lagos State Government increased monthly allowances for officers—from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to the rank-and-file—making the structure in the Lagos State Police Command second to none.

We made significant strides in improving security,” he added.
In his remarks, Fatai pledged to sustain and build on the existing security architecture and operational strategies in the state.

He emphasised that a secure environment is critical to economic growth and public confidence, assuring residents that the command would adopt proactive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based policing approaches.

“Criminal elements will find no safe haven in Lagos. We will strengthen community engagement as a cornerstone of our policing strategy and continue to build trust with residents as partners in progress,” he said.

Fatai also stressed the importance of collaboration with the media in ensuring timely, accurate, and responsible information dissemination.

He highlighted youth engagement as a key priority, noting that constructive interaction with young people would help foster peace, prevent crime, and promote mutual respect between the police and the public.

On inter-agency collaboration, the CP said the command would continue to work closely with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and other security agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.

Addressing officers and men of the command, Fatai declared that discipline, professionalism, and integrity would be strictly enforced, with zero tolerance for police brutality and other forms of misconduct.

“Any personnel found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with extant laws and regulations,” he warned.
He also assured officers that their welfare, training, and motivation would receive due attention to enhance service delivery.

Fatai outlined key operational priorities, including reducing crime to the barest minimum, tackling cultism and violent crimes, improving road discipline, strengthening visibility policing, and restoring peace in identified flashpoints across the state.

He encouraged members of the public to report complaints or rights violations through the Complaint Response Unit via 09111111150 (calls) and 09111111151 (WhatsApp).

“Let me assure the government and people of Lagos State that under my leadership, the command will remain committed, responsive, and accountable,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has approved the creation of seven new police divisions in Lagos State to enhance security coverage.
Under the new arrangement, areas such as Lekki Phase 1 and Lekki Phase II are among those to benefit from the additional divisions.
