
The National of Rwanda – RwandAir Monday, announced that it is offering up to 15 per cent on flights to Kigali to help in celebrating the Giants of Africa festival for basketball fans across Africa and the world.
The national carrier is the official airline partner of Giants of Africa, a not-for-profit
organization dedicated to enriching the lives of African youths through sports.
The airline in its magnanimity stated that customers can use the promotional code GAFRIC23 during the booking process to save up to 15 per cent off flights from key markets around Africa.
RwandAir would be flying in teams from Tanzania, South Sudan, Uganda, Cameroon, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria for the festival.
In celebration of the Giants of Africa’s 20th anniversary, the inaugural Giants of Africa Youth Basketball Festival holds between August 13 and 19 in Kigali, the Capital City of Rwanda.
The Chief Executive Officer of the airline, Yvonne Makolo, RwandAir, stated that basketball fans throughout Africa “would be winging their way to Kigali with RwandAir to celebrate this fantastic event.”
According to her, “This year, the Giants of Africa Festival celebrates 20 years of empowering youtsh, and we are delighted to be the Official Airline Partner for the first Giants of Africa Youth Basketball Festival.”
Adding: “The Festival strives to unite and celebrate the next generation of leaders across Africa from Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal. Others are Somalia, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana, South Sudan, Morocco, Cameroon and Mali.
Operating from Kigali, RwandAir has a fleet of modern aircraft, and serves 25 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. The airline has a reputation for delivering a premium service to all its customers, while also promoting Rwanda’s tourism and trade industries.
RwandAir has received numerous awards for its service, including the Best Airline Staff in Africa award at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
On the other hand, Masai Ujiri had in 2003, co-founded the Giants of Africa Foundation based on the idea of using basketball as a means of educating and enriching the lives of African youths.
Vice-Chairman and President of the Toronto Raptors and Co-Founder of the Giants of Africa, Masai Ujiri was the first and only African-born President of a professional sports franchise in North America – the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors.
Giants of Africa has used sport to help empower youth to dream big, hosting basketball camps and clinics for boys and girls in 17 countries across the continent.
In 2021, Giants of Africa launched the ‘Built Within’ 100-court initiative and has unveiled 26 basketball facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Somalia.
To celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary, the inaugural Giants of Africa Festival will bring together over 250 youths from 16 countries across Africa to Kigali, Rwanda, for a week-long celebration of basketball, education, culture and entertainment.
