Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has flagged off the 2018 November round of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week in Kebbi State and called on all relevant partners including the private sector to complement state governments towards improving the health sector.

The ceremony, which took place yesterday at Jega Council, is aimed at improving access and utilization of essential maternal and child health care service to reduce maternal and child mortality. Buhari, represented by Hansatu Zanna, said that there is need to increase awareness about the importance of healthcare services with emphasis on routine antenatal care, immunization, deworming of children and Vitamin A supplementation for reducing maternal and child mortality.

She commended the efforts of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and his wife for championing the week and called on other states yet to flag-off the program to do so, affirming readiness to work together with stakeholders in the fight against preventable maternal and child mortality in Nigeria as the governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring the provision of health care services especially to women and children.

Over 2, 000 volunteers would receive ten thousand Naira each and would be posted to all parts of the state for the implementation of the programme and gifts were presented to mothers of children who recovered from malnutrition.
