Rights Activist and senatorial aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has intensified consultations across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, pledging to prioritise security, job creation and inclusive development if elected.
The prominent human and gender rights activist embarked on a series of grassroots engagements in Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje, where she met with party leaders, stakeholders, women groups, youths and community representatives ahead of the party’s primary elections.
During the visits, Yesufu said her consultations were aimed at understanding the pressing challenges confronting residents, including insecurity, unemployment, poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare services, limited access to quality education, and insufficient water supply.
She stressed that the FCT requires purposeful and people-oriented leadership capable of addressing the socio-economic concerns of residents across the Area Councils.
According to her, security and economic empowerment remain critical to improving the welfare of residents and restoring confidence in governance.
“The future of the Federal Capital Territory depends on the collective strength, unity and voices of its people. My visit to your communities is not just to seek your votes, but to listen, understand your challenges and work together towards a better and more inclusive FCT,” she said.
“With your support, we can build a capital city where every resident has equal opportunities, security and access to quality infrastructure and development.”
Yesufu further pledged to continue engaging widely with residents and stakeholders to ensure that their concerns are adequately reflected in her policy direction and legislative agenda.
“We cannot build a better FCT without carrying the people along. This journey is about service, inclusion and giving residents a stronger voice in governance,” she stated.
Party leaders and stakeholders who spoke during the engagements described Yesufu as a courageous and committed advocate who has consistently championed justice, accountability and good governance in Nigeria.
They commended her resilience and longstanding activism, expressing confidence in her ability to provide quality representation for residents of the FCT at the National Assembly.
Community leaders in Kwali and other Area Councils also pledged support for her aspiration, promising to mobilise party delegates and members in her favour during the forthcoming primary elections.
The consultations ended with renewed commitments by party members and supporters to strengthen the party structure and work towards victory in both the primaries and the 2027 general elections.
