Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Owo, headquarters of the Owo Local Council Area of Ondo, following violent cult-related clashes rocking the ancient town.
According to Aiyedatiwa, the declaration of the curfew became imperative due to the security disturbances that had claimed over four lives.
No fewer than five persons had been killed in the community, including a former youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the clashes.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the curfew must be complied with until further notice.
“Due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances in Owo that have led to the loss of lives, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town until further notice.
“All residents are required to remain indoors during the curfew. Only essential services, such as hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement, will be exempt from the curfew.
“The governor has also asked security agencies in the state to enforce the curfew, ensure the safety of lives and property, arrest perpetrators of the violence, and restore peace to the community.”
