Akinlade urges govt to channel nation’s resources aright

The Bishop of Ife Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade has called on the government to channel the resources God has endowed Nigeria with to the right places to reflect in the lives of Nigerians.

He gave the charge in his address, at the weekend, during the celebration of the second session of the 12th Synod of the Diocese with the theme: “The essential secrets in a noisy world,” held at the Cathedral of St. Philips, Ayetoro, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

“It is not enough to pride the nation as the giant of Africa with nothing to show for it.

“We have more than enough resources in this country, but not channelled to the right places. We beg our government to please re-channel the wealth of this nation to the people. Also, many people who are in privileged positions should help their fellow Nigerians, especially those who are managers of the resources of the nation,” he said.

Akinlade, therefore, urged the government to take a cue from the government of Botswana, which sponsors its citizens from nursery to the university level with stipends, adding that every intelligent student is given a scholarship to study overseas with all expenses paid.

Also, the Preacher and immediate past bishop of the diocese, Rt. Rev. Oluranti Odubogun, in his sermon, urged Nigerians not to be men pleasers but to do goodness to God and their fellow Nigerians with all their heart.
