The immediate past Chairman of Body of Benchers, Wole Olanipekun, has said that the move to construct an aerotropolis at the Akure Cargo Airport, Ondo State, will boost the economic landscape and fortunes of the state and, by extension, the South-West.

The legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria said the infrastructure would create thousands of jobs for states in the region.

Olanipekun, who spoke during the ground-breaking ceremony of the aerotropolis, yesterday, said the project would beam the host community, Oba-Ile, to the world.

Also, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Rabiu Yadudu, who was represented by Director of Commercial and Business Development, Sadiku Abdulkadir Rafindadi, said the project would generate enough employment opportunities to significantly reduce unemployment rate in the country.

The traditional ruler of the host community, the Oloba of Oba-Ile, Joseph Agunbiade, who spoke through Mrs. Stella Kosemani, however, said: “We are delighted that this project will bring enormous development to the airport, Oba-Ile community, Ondo State in particular, and the nation in general.

“We look forward to this project providing employment to many people, including indigenes and residents of the community.”

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said: “Setting this investment here will be very profitable. It will bring a lot of benefits to Oba-Ile community, and will also give the state a great revenue.”
