An Akure High Court in Ondo State has sentenced Aturoti Adeleke to death by hanging for serial armed robbery and rape. The prosecution led by Remi Olatubora, the convict robbed his victims, who are all women, dispossessed them of their money, valuables and raped them.

The convict had committed the crimes on May 27 and 29, 2016 at 1am and 3am in Olorunsogo Street, Adesula and Ademulegun Road, Ondo in Ondo West council of the state. A police witness said the case was first investigated by the Funbi Fagun Divisional Police Station, Ondo before it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department and later the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Akure.

Another police officer at the station, Mrs. Jegede Abayomi, said the convict also robbed one manager of a filling station, Toyin Ijitimehin, of her valuables, adding that Aturoti accosted her on a motorcycle and threatened her with a gun.

One of the victims, Mrs. Abebi Adegoroye testified that the convict came into her room about 2am asking for money. She added that he did not wear a mask during the operation and that she saw his face clearly as there was light that night.

She narrated that when she told him that she had no money, he tied her down, raped her, searched her room and took away her N48, 000. Adegoroye further told the court that she could identify the defendant by a stiff first finger on one of his hands

While the third victim testified that the defendant robbed her of N47, 000 and also wanted to rape her despite being pregnant. She said the convict had lived with her mother, Mrs. Desola Oyeneyin, who housed and fed him on several occasions.

She explained that the convict demanded that she should bring out all the money she had in the house when she opened the door. He took away all her jewelries and money.
Another witness, Mrs. Bola Adedutire who was also robbed and raped, said that he came into her room while she was sleeping and ordered her to remove her under wears.

But Aturoti denied the allegations though he admitted to be familiar with Oyeneyin and her daughter, whom he said had taken care of him when he was young.Justice S. A. Bola in his judgment ruled that rape attracts life imprisonment while armed robbery attracts death sentence and sentenced the accused in like manner.
