• Gov declares councils winners of N155m Christmas fiesta prize

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has declared her intention to collaborate with the national and the state’s children’s parliaments in advocating for a revision of the Child Rights Law to align with the current challenges faced by children.

The First Lady designate made the declaration on Friday, February 7, 2025, when she received the Speaker of the National Children’s Parliament, Progress Friday Umoh, in her office at the Government House in Uyo.

While applauding the Speaker for her outstanding brilliance, Obareki thanked her for the visit and reiterated her resolve to engage in progressive partnerships that will add value to the lives of others.

“These are the kinds of conversations we want to have in the office of the First Lady because this is really why we exist. I am happy that there is already a child rights law and I’m happy that you have said that there is a need for a review.”

That partnership is definitely approved and I look forward to working with you in that regard,” she said.

MEANWHILE, Governor Umo Eno has declared all 31 local councils in the state that participated in the 32-day 2024 Christmas Unplugged Season 2.0, Sights and Sounds of Local Council Areas winners of the competition.

Each of the local councils had participated with the hope of clinching any of the top three prizes in the competitive presentations of the sights and sounds segment of the Christmas Unplugged Season 2.0. But the state governor, in a surprise announcement, declared all the local council areas winners in the competition, awarding each of them a N5 million prize.

The announcement and prize presentation brought the 32-day celebration to an end, which lasted from December 1, 2024, to January 1, 2025. It featured the cultural heritage and tourism potential of all 31 local councils of the state.

Announcing the total prize sum of N155 million, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Grace Akpan, said the surprise declaration by the governor that all 31 the councils of the state emerged winners was a demonstration of the large heart, benevolent spirit and the all-inclusive governance disposition of the governor.
