Akwa Ibom governor expresses satisfaction with work at airport terminal building
Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has expressed satisfaction with the level of progress on the new terminal building project at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
He made this commendation during an unscheduled project inspection tour to the airport yesterday.
He expressed satisfaction at the quality of work done by VKS Construction Company on the project, stressing that the new terminal would facilitate development in the state.
“This is one of the major gateways to our economic development not just for Nigeria, but the entire Africa, and I want to thank the contractors who are quite on schedule because if they miss the schedule they miss our target,” he said.
Emmanuel disclosed that the state government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) facility of the airport, adding that the airport is being built to meet international standards.
“Akwa Ibom is the only state building this kind of international terminal facility. No state in Africa is doing this because the quality of airport we are giving to Nigeria is comparable to any international airport in the world,” he said.
Earlier, Commissioner for Special Duties, Okpolupm Etteh, described the governor as a man of quality, adding that he was happy with his assessment of the pace of work at the new terminal building construction site.
He assured of the continuous diligence of the ministry’s technical team in supervising the work to its completion.
“I am very happy that the governor is satisfied with what the ministry and the contractors are doing. We are the ones supervising what they are doing there.
“We have the ministry’s team, the engineers, quantity surveyors and all classes of technical workers from the ministry on the site.
