A group of Akwa Ibom indigenes resident in Lagos has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was announced during the inauguration of the Lagos chapter of the Arise With Renewed Hope Initiative, held at D’Podium International Hall in Lagos. The event brought together members of the Akwa Ibom community, political figures and representatives of various socio-cultural groups.
A motion endorsing the three political leaders was moved by the Majority Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Otobong Bob, and seconded by Aniekan Uko. Participants at the gathering adopted it.
Speakers at the event said the initiative was aimed at mobilising support among Akwa Ibom indigenes living outside the state, particularly in major urban centres.
President-General of the group, Uwem Okoko, thanked attendees for their turnout and described the Lagos chapter as a key part of the organisation’s outreach efforts. He said the endorsement reflected the position of members present at the inauguration.
In his welcome remarks, the Lagos State coordinator, Otuekong Ubong Jackson Essien, said the turnout at the event showed interest among members of the community. He added that the group would work to mobilise support for All Progressives Congress candidates in the next election cycle.
Also speaking, the initiative’s international coordinator, Udo Keiran Akpan, described Lagos as an important location for engaging Akwa Ibom indigenes outside their home state.
The event featured the swearing-in of chapter executives and advisory council members. Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of community associations and professional groups, reflecting participation from a range of organisations within the Akwa Ibom diaspora in Lagos.
Organisers said the initiative has extended its activities to other parts of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, Cross River, Rivers and several northern states, as part of its broader mobilisation plan.
According to the group, the final phase of its chapter inaugurations is scheduled to take place in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, with a closing event planned at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The development comes as political groups and stakeholders begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with various organisations seeking to consolidate support across regions and among diaspora communities within Nigeria.
