The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday night adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate.
Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was adopted during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The meeting, convened by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun; former governor, Aremo Segun Osoba; Senators Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, and Gbenga Obadara, among other caucus members.
The adoption followed an address by Governor Abiodun, who informed the gathering that he had consulted with other aspirants from Ogun West, including Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, urging them to step down in support of Adeola.
In his acceptance speech, Adeola pledged not to let Ogun State and the All Progressives Congress down, vowing to sustain the state’s trajectory as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies and a leading industrial hub.
Adeola said:
“Now is the time to consolidate all the sacrifices my brothers have made to ensure that this day comes to pass. I believe strongly in unity and oneness—both within our party and across Ogun State, particularly Ogun West.
“I understand the vision for this state and recognize how central Ogun is to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially as one of the most industrialised states and among the fastest-growing economies in the country. All efforts made to reposition the state and restore its pride of place among the comity of states are well acknowledged.
“Your Excellency and distinguished leaders, I assure you that I will not let you down. I promise to keep the flag flying and to sustain the unity, peace, and progress that Ogun State has enjoyed in recent years. I will not derail.
“I will ensure that the ship I am about to captain remains on course. By the grace of God, I will do my utmost best to unite every member of our great party and the entire state, irrespective of political differences, as one indivisible family.
“From today, I assure you that a new Ogun State is emerging. Everything necessary will be done to strengthen our unity and move the state to the next level we all desire. Once again, I thank Your Excellency and the leaders of our great party.”
