Akwa Ibom: Hospitality industry to encourage academic excellence, talents

A hospitality outfit in Akwa Ibom State, Watbridge Hotels and Suites, has promised to promote academic excellence, stressing that such policy has made the management think outside the box.

Addressing newsmen in Uyo, the General Manager, Otunba Sunday Ajayi, said such deliberate policy had led to a package known as Walbridge Scholar, where the hotel would celebrate and support outstanding academic excellence and talents in the country.

According to him, the establishment would undertake the payment of such students’ fees throughout their stay in the university, adding that, such would add to other numerous humanistic endeavours the hotels had embarked upon since it came on stream in 2018.

“In the coming days, we will roll out another novel idea called, Watbridge Scholar, aimed at celebrating and supporting academic talents in the country. The Watbridge Scholars, to be keenly selected based purely on merits, would among other things,s enjoy financial support from the hotel, free use of our library, free stay at the Letters’ House, lunches and other incentives. We are promoting Watbridge Scholar as encouragement for our students and youths,” he said.

He further explained that the aim of advancing innovations and doing things differently, made the hotel diversify into the agricultural sector knowing that such would not only benefit the hotel but help in creating employment opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state.

“Watbridge Farms have also taken off to create more jobs for our youths; this agricultural arm of our enterprise will deepen our food and value chain. We have recently unpackaged the Letters House, a state-of-the-art Watbridge Hotels extension replete with a publishing arm. Its City View Meeting Hall is a beauty to behold”, he added.
