The Akwa Ibom State Government has sought residents and commuters understanding and patience given the current inconveniences they are facing following diversion of traffic from Olusegun Obasanjo Way and Abak Road.

State Commissioner for Works, Ephraim Inyangeyen, made the appeal when he led officials of the ministry on a demolition exercise at the Abak Road axis to pave way for construction of the Ikot-Oku-kono junction flyover.

Inyangeyen, who expressed delight at the enthusiasm the people demonstrated in support of the ongoing construction again restated Governor Udom Emmanuel’s desire to deflate traffic build up along the busy road, as part of the state government’s urban infrastructure expansion programme.

He assured that the project would be given priority attention because of its importance to the state, saying: “This project will be delivered on schedule and we continue to plead for understanding from the people for the inconveniences caused by diversion of traffic from the roads linking the area.

In a related development, the commissioner also supervised demolition of structures at the Okon Eket area for the expansion of the Eket-Etinan Road.

He commended the dispatch with which property owners who have been compensated vacated the marked structures, adding that the gesture would help to facilitate progress of the project.
