
Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Haruna Garba, has described news making the rounds of kidnappings in Maitama and Asokoro as fake.
The CP urged residents of the federal capital to disregard rumour on social media suggesting there have been several kidnapping incidents in the areas.
He said: “This post is intended to create panic and apprehension in the minds of people.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to assure members of the public of their safety and security, as the command has emplaced working strategies to safeguard life and property before, during and after the Yuletide season.”
Therefore, residents of the FCT are advised to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of molestation or intimidation.
“The FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, since his assumption of duty in the FCT, has been very supportive of the police and other security agencies in the collective effort to fight crime and criminality.”
The CP appealed to residents to work together to defeat crime and criminality, rather than create anxiety and fear where there is none.
He urged them to be patriotic and cooperate with the police for improved service delivery.
He equally tasked residents to take advantage of the Police Control Room numbers in reporting suspicious activities.
