Allow military maintain peace, APC urges Nigerians

Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, APC National Publicity Secretary

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has enjoined Nigerians to allow the security agencies discharge their constitutional roles of protecting lives and property nationwide.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party urged operatives of security agencies to abide by global rules in their engagements.

Expressing concerns over the violent clash between soldiers and members of IPOB in the South East, APC advised the citizenry to be mindful of their utterances.

The party stressed that the stoking tension, allegedly instigated by inciting utterances, hate would only push the country to the precipice.

APC said: “When we see the devastation of the country’s North East by Boko Haram, the 1967 civil war and similar conflicts in other countries, we are reminded of the effects of internal strife. We must not yield to those elements beating the drumbeats of war.

“We owe the peace and unity of our dear country to the present and unborn generations. We must speak and stand up for peaceful co-existence on our social media platforms, places of worship and all other public spaces we belong.”

Noting that the agitations by IPOB and other separatist groups were undermining the unity of the country, the party reiterated its commitment to a united nation.

Calling for restraint by the groups, the APC condemned the attack on secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Umuahia. It lauded the military for regretting the unfortunate incident.
