The Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, in Ondo State, has announced the arrest of 27 suspects for various offenses across the 18 local government areas of the state over the past two weeks.

Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, the State Commander of Amotekun, disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists on Tuesday in Akure.

Adeleye explained that the suspects were arrested for offenses such as cultism, housebreaking, and motorcycle theft. He also noted that the corps had successfully resolved five anti-grazing/farmer-related clashes.

“What I mean by resolved farmers and herders clashes is that the herders voluntarily paid for the damages caused and also paid the government’s fine for their infringements,” he said.

He added, “The uniqueness of today’s parade is that only a few kidnapping cases—about two or three—were recorded, mostly at the borders. Two cases occurred at the Akunu-Kogi-Ondo border, and one was recorded at the Ose-Edo-Ondo border over the last two weeks.”

Adeleye emphasized that the 18 local government areas are currently peaceful and conducive to both community and investment activities.

“Among the arrested suspects is a 30-year-old man involved in malicious damage, cultism, and the attempted murder of law enforcement agents. We also apprehended a 42-year-old man who attacked Amotekun officers to conceal his illegal activities, and a 21-year-old man, Samuel Peter, who was involved in an attempted murder case,” Adeleye stated.

He further highlighted the arrest of a suspect named Akimade Friday, who allegedly killed a 65-year-old man. “This is a 20-year-old boy who outrightly murdered the man,” Adeleye remarked.

The commander attributed the success of the arrests to the relentless efforts of the corps’ personnel and reiterated the corps’ commitment to combating crime both within urban areas and in the forests.
