Anambra government, police warn troublemakers over International Market Land

Anambra State Police Command has ordered any citizen of Oba community, host of the popular international market in Idemili South Council, to pursue whatever grievances they have with the state government over the market project in a court of competent jurisdiction.

This order was handed down yesterday by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of operations on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mustafa Dandaura.

At the meeting was chairman of the community, Chuba Oranusi; the project developers, Bukham Ltd, led by Michael Egbule; and those protesting the continued clearing of the project site led by one Benson Anajemba and Azubike Okeke.

The police chief stated that they were invited under a convivial atmosphere to be informed of the orders of the state government that all necessary compensations on the said lands for the market had been paid to the authentic landowners.

He added that any move by anyone to foment trouble or impede the progress of the project would be resisted officially.

The meeting was sequel to reports of gross misinformation currently going on within the community by the Anajemba group who were said to be protesting to attract attention of the state government and or the market developers.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting Oranusi, a former of Assembly member and current chairman of the representatives of the International Market landowners in Oba, confirmed payment outstanding compensation on the project by the state government last year.

“We are grateful that the state government is fully cooperating with the developers to see business activities kick-start in earnest at the market.”

The project was flagged off in 2001 by then Vice President Namadi Sambo with about 1,800.
