Anambra police nab six suspected touts

Operatives of Anambra State Police Command have arrested six suspected touts as the command intensified fight against touting, Illegal revenue collection and other violent crimes in the state.

Operatives of Anambra State Police Command have arrested six suspected touts as the command intensified fight against touting, Illegal revenue collection and other violent crimes in the state.
  
The Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng said his officers and men have applied deliberate strategies, which involves both covert and overt operations, in the effort to rid the state of all criminal elements and other violent crimes.
 
Spokesperson for the command, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement yesterday,  said the six suspects were arrested along Kara junction, Atani and Obudogwu roads between March 23, and March 26, while touting and collecting revenue illegally from motorists and other members of the public. 

 
He listed the six suspects as: Andrew Chukwueze, 19, ‘m’, of Nkanu East Local Council of Enugu State, Emmanuel Charles ,18,  ‘m’, of Umualoma in Orlu , Imo State, Chigozie Bernard, 20,  ‘m’, of Izza-west Local Council of  Ebonyi State, Chibueze Nduife, 30, ‘m’, of Ebonyi State, Nnamdi Anyigba, 27, ‘m’, 27 of Enugu State and Ebuka Ogidi, 25, ‘m’ of Ebonyi State.

IN another development, the Commissioner of Police has disclosed that the seven suspects behind the inhuman treatment meted on the widow accused of killing her husband at Aguleri have been charged to court.
    
Echeng, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria at the police headquarters Awka, yesterday, reiterated the commitment of the Command towards weeding out all criminal elements in the state.
 
He enjoined all law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support the Command especially through prompt and accurate information.
  
Earlier, in her address, the National President of the Association, Hon Nkiru Nwagbo, urged the Commissioner to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book, while expressing the association’s happiness over the handling of the matter by the police so far.  

  
She expressed confidence in the command that the masterminds would be brought to book, which will serve as a deterrent to those whose stuck in trade is the brutality against women.
 
“We also express our appreciation to your office in the manner you protected the dignity and respect for womanhood in the Aguleri episode against the widow that was maltreated by her in-laws,” she added.
 
Recall  that operatives of the Command arrested six additional suspects, including a native doctor, who where Identified during the study of the video by police operatives. 
   
The suspects charged to court are: Anthony Obanye , ‘m’ 44, Udalor Egwuatu Nnalue, ‘m’ 46, Godwin Ezechukwu, ‘m’, 42, Nonso Ezechukwu ‘m’,  20, Philomena Onyekwe ,‘f’, 27 and Chineyere Mmachi, ‘f’, 32.
 
Investigation revealed that the deceased, Mr. Udorji Egwatu, had been sick for some time when his bother, Mr Udalor took him to Anthony, a native doctor. 

Anthony confessed to have taken the decease on some spiritual cleansing and administered him some herbs before he died. It was Anthony who allegedly told the family of the deceased that the cause of his death was as a result of the wife’s infidelity.
