Anti-Lassa fever campaign begins in Edo
Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada, Prof. Nosakhare Bazuaye, yesterday, called for concerted efforts toward curbing Lassa fever in the country.
He made the call during the Public Health Awareness Campaign organised by the hospital, with the theme: “Lassa fever: prevention and treatment.”
He said the campaign became necessary following the discovery of Lassa fever in Ovia North East Council.
While advocating health safety in the community, the CMD noted that the campaign was aimed at creating awareness on ways to prevent and treat the fever.
Speaking earlier, Edo State Coordinator of World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Eyo Nora, commended IUTH on its efforts.
The coordinator, who was represented by Grace Ireotoi, spoke on ways to contract the fever, symptoms and prevention. While the Chairman, of the Medical Advisory Committee of IUTH, Dr. Godwill Agbon-Ojeme, advised participants to take the message home, some participants appreciated IUTH for the awareness campaign.
Participants were drawn from the host community, Okada, and other communities in Ovia North East and Ovia South-West councils.
