Anyaoku, Bage, others bag ABUAD honorary degrees
• 141 students bag first class degrees
The management of Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) will, on Saturday, conferred honorary degrees on former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the Emir of Lafia, His Royal Highness Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd) and the Managing Director of BOVAS, Mrs Victoria Adunnola Samson, at the 11th convocation of the institution.
Also, no fewer than 141 out of 1,668 graduating students are to be awarded First Class degrees from different faculties of ABUAD. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, stated this in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, at a press conference heralding the convocation of ABUAD.
According to Olarinde, further breakdown of the number of graduating students shows that 1,459 are for Bachelors, 209 are postgraduate students while 123 students are MBBS graduates.
He added that the university, over the past decades, has experienced significant growth due to the enduring vision of the founder, Chief Afe Babalola.
On the award of honorary degrees to deserving Nigerians, she noted that the university’s council and Senate unanimously approved the nominations of three eminent personalities for the award of Honorary Degrees in strict compliance with 2012 Keffi declaration.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the three eminent personalities have impacted humanity through their different callings, saying their selection was rigorous, thorough and merit-based.
Meanwhile, Anyaoku would on Friday, October 20 deliver the convocation lecture titled: “Management of Diversity: A major challenge in Pluralistic Countries.”
