Nigeria ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Thursday adopted direct primary for its presidential ticket and indirect primaries for other positions.

This decision was made during the party’s 6th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which held at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Nigeria president Muhammadu Buhari was initially expected to pick the party’s presidential ticket for the 2019 elections with no opposition.

However, Governor of Plateau stated noted that the meeting was anchored on three main points; guidelines for election, mode of election and funding.

APC’s decision might not sit well with the party members who had initially threatened to leave if such resolution is taken by the party.

Dalung also urged APC members to remain in unity as defection rocks the party.

The party also asked states willing to hold direct primaries depending on their peculiarities to inform the National Working Committee NWC of the party

Senatorial and governorship ticket were the other elective position the party declined to adopt direct primaries for in the coming election.
