APC alleges plot to compromise card readers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged plan by those it referred to as electoral criminals to rig the election by compromising the electronic card reading machines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and making them unable to properly identify owners of permanent voters cards (PVC).

According to the party, the criminal act would make it possible for many people to use the PVC without the card reader uploading the photograph to identify who owns it.

The alarm was raised yesterday in Osogbo at a world press conference addressed by the state Chairman of the APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, who claimed he got the information from a reliable source.

Famodun alleged that the rigging technique was used during the last Osun West Senatorial by-election, which, according to him, “resulted in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having more votes than it would have had legitimately.”

On how the fraud was carried out during the by-election, Famodun disclosed that “those the electoral criminals used to compromise the electronic card readers were the corps members operating the device.”

“This rigging technique is executed at a critical time during the accreditation process. Encouraged by their success during the last senatorial by-election in the Osun West district, the criminal diggers now plan to extend their operation throughout the state on Saturday during the governorship election.

“As a result of this development, the APC is urging INEC to allow party agents scrutinise the verification process in order to confirm the PVC holder’s image on the card reader.”

The APC chairman also said “security agents should equally be involved in the process so that the corps members who will be used to perpetrate this fraud directly during the verification process would be under strict observation to ensure that the card readers are not compromised.”

Famodun advised that corps members who will handle the card readers should be supervised and protected from those he called desperate politicians who will do everything criminal to win.

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, have called on the people of Osun to support continuity of good governance by electing the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola.

The duo, who said Governor Rauf Aregbesola government had done well in all aspects of the economy, spoke yesterday during a courtesy visit to him at the Government House, Osogbo.

The Kano governor, who doubles as the Chairman, National Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the governorship election, said it was imperative for the people to support the continuity agenda for socio-economic advancement of the state.

“As a matter of fact, the only way to pay Aregbesola back for the good works that his administration has done is to vote for continuity so that we can sustain Osun on the path of development.

“We have seen the infrastructural facilities that his administration has put in place; the good roads, schools, among others. These are legacies that must be sustained and prevented from being destroyed.”

Oba Adeyemi said Aregbesola had built a state worthy of emulation by any serious government in Nigeria.

He applauded the governor for the good works his administration has done in the past eight years, appealing to Osun people to vote for APC in the interest of genuine development and transformation.

“It is only an enemy of progress that will not appreciate the performance of Aregbesola’s administration in spite of the challenges posed by the nation’s economy. I am happy that Aregbesola has been practising what he preaches, he has not disappointed us, he has not disappointed his people and he has not disappointed Nigerians.

“I am happy to identify with Aregbesola not only because he is the governor, but because he has done very well in all aspects of life; he has improved on the economy of Osun and he has raised the bar of governance, despite the present economic reality.”

Aregbesola thanked Ganduje and Alaafin, promising to utilize his remaining days in office to build more on his giant strides.
