APC lawmaker asks party to back Oborevwori’s re-election bid
The political undercurrents in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed a new twist yesterday when a member of the party and a serving lawmaker, Francis Waive, called on his party to endorse Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as their sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
In a chat with reporters, Waive hinged his argument on the governor’s cordial relationship with President Bola Tinubu. This, he noted, demonstrates his deep understanding of governance. He also lauded the governor’s performance, stating that he has shocked every Deltan with his people-oriented programmes and quality projects.”
He said, “It will be impossible for any other candidate to beat Oborevwori in 2027,” adding that his coming to APC is a valuable addition and will bring an immediate end to the crisis engulfing the party in the state.
“I can see Oborevwori and Tinubu coasting to victory on the APC ticket. This synergy is what APC in Delta needs at this moment. Not only will this bring peace to the party, it will make victory very certain.”
The lawmaker further highlighted that the principle of governorship rotation among Delta’s three senatorial districts favours Oborevwori, who would be serving only one more term. He called on all Deltans to support this move, emphasising that it would strengthen party unity and enhance the state’s development.
