Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba, has maintained that power rotation witnessed in the state since 1999 will be legalised.

Eba, who spoke to journalists at the APC state secretariat in Calabar, said the party would sponsor a bill in the state House of Assembly to entrench the practice in the state statutes.

He said that henceforth, it would be criminal for any part of the state to clamour for political power outside its turn.

Before now, there have been disagreements over power rotation, many arguing that zoning is not a law in the state.

Eba said: “We are going to frame a bill that will make zoning arrangement or power rotation between the three senatorial districts to be legalised. The state Assembly where we also have members of the other party will deliberate on the bill

“The law will seek to criminalise anyone or district seeking governorship but whose turn has not come.”

“This way, after eight years of Prince Bassey Otu’s administration, our people in the central senatorial district can be very certain that nobody will wake up from other districts to struggle for power with them. Thereafter, by that imminent law, power will rotate to the north in 16 years from now.”
