Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN) has said that, over the years, succeeded in creating different outreach programmes to increase the numerical strength of female engineers.
APWEN President, Funmilola Ojelade, who made this known at the 2021 International Conference and Annual General Meeting of the organisation with the theme, ‘Women Engineers: Driving Digital Transformation in Nigeria’, said the programmes aim to inspire girls to take up the sciences and pursue a career in engineering.
She added that the programme would build the capacity of the young females and help them develop employability skills, entrepreneurial skills, or both.
Ojelade noted that this was to provide them with skills that bridge the gap between their university education and the industry they would practise in.
The programmes include Town and Gown (T&G), which helps girls who study engineering to practise the professions.
