50-year-old architect, Adewale Gbenga is battling stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and seeks help from well-meaning Nigerians for a transplant that would cost N17m.

Gbenga was diagnosed of the Disease in June 2018 at Covenant University Medical Centre, Ota, where he was advised to seek the attention of a Nephrologist.

According to him, after a series of tests requested by Nephrologists at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) and confirmation tests at other laboratories it was established that he has stage 5 CKD.

He said: “Till date, I have undergone 56 sessions of dialysis at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, FMC Abeokuta and Ayodele Medical Centre, Iju, Fagba, Lagos, where I am presently receiving medical treatment and we have spent well over N8.5m on management and maintenance.

“The sessions of dialysis have only helped to manage the ailment but have not provided a cure. Consequently, a consultant Nephrologist at Ayodele Medical Centre, Iju, Lagos, Dr. Orolu advised that we look at a better alternative, which is transplantation and we should ensure it is done not later than November 2019. I sent my brother to Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja (where I was referred to for the transplantation), for enquiry on the cost implication of the process.”

According to the medical report from Ayodele Medical Centre, Clinics and Maternity Home, signed by Dr. Babafemi and presented to The Guardian, the assistance for a kidney transplant stated: “The above 50-year-old man is known to have end-stage kidney failure and has been doing dialysis at our centre for about 10 months. He requires a kidney transplant. Please, kindly, render any assistance possible to enable Adewale Gbenga to have his kidney transplant at Zenith Medical and Transplant Centre, Abuja.”
