Arewa Consultative Youths Movement (ACYM) has bemoaned the continued silence of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Imo State Commissioner of Police and Department of State Service (DSS) on the attack on the residence of spokesman for Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) Ikenga Ugochinyere, in Imo.

The youths specifically accused the IGP, Usman Baba, of shielding Governor Hope Uzodimma’s aide, Chinasa Nwaneri, who allegedly threatened to harm Ugochinyere.

Gunmen had attacked Ugochinyere’s hometown of Akokwa, Ideato North Local Council, which allegedly left three persons dead, over 30 vehicles burnt and houses razed.

In a statement, yesterday, the President of ACYM, Kabiru Yusuf, urged the police to hold the governor responsible for the attack.

He said, “Few weeks ago, Ikenga was openly threatened by one Chinasa Nwaneri, an aide to Governor Hope Uzodimma. It has been days since the attack, yet nothing has been done by the security agencies.

“It is really worrisome that, in all of these, no arrest has been effected by the police and/or DSS. It is noteworthy that protection of life and property is the sacred responsibility of government. The security agencies are supposed to be non-partisan and act without fear or favour.”

In lieu of doing the needful, Imo government rather jeered Ugochinyere, saying he was the architect of his ordeal.

According to statement, on Monday, by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, the CUPP spokesman is queer and perverted, resulting in life-long cantankerous conduct that has defined his infantile political adventure for long.

“Naturally, he picks enemies the way magnet picks metal and therefore should look inward to know where his problem emanated. His ordeal is certainly not from Imo government,” he added.

Yusuf noted that the sole mandate of security agencies is to prevent occasions capable of causing human death.

“It is, however, sad that since this heinous crime was committed, nothing has been done by the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” he added.
