Army debunks alleged attack on Bishop Kukah’s residence, Sokoto Cathedral

The Nigerian Army, through the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging an armed attack on the residence of Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.

The military described the report, which was shared on Facebook, as misleading and unfounded, stressing that no such incident occurred in Sokoto State.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of Operation Fansan Yamma, Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Army categorically debunked the claims, assuring that the bishop and the cathedral remain safe.

The statement added that Bishop Kukah is currently carrying out his Easter activities without any disruption.

“There was no attack in Sokoto State. The safety and security of Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral remain intact,” the statement said.

The Army further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across its area of responsibility, noting that it is working in collaboration with other security agencies.

“Robust security measures are in place to ensure a peaceful and secure Easter celebration across the area of responsibility,” Osoba added.

The military urged the public to disregard the false reports and rely on credible sources for information.
