Army Headquarters Department of Training is conducting extensive training for operatives of forest guards at Nigerian Army Training Centre Miango, Plateau State.

As part of the activities outlined for the training, the operatives will be conducting Range Classification exercise which will involve live firing of weapons at the 3 Division Small Arms Range Miango. This is to enhance their proficiency in firearms and weapon handling as well as marksmanship skills.

 

According to a statement yesterday by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of the 3 Division Nigerian Army Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, the Range Classification exercise for the operatives is scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Army Shooting Range Miango, Jos from tomorrow (7 Saturday till 22 August 2026).

 

The Shooting Exercise would involve large movement of troops and equipment as well as series of gunshots within and around the Shooting Range. Therefore, Occupants within Miango general area are kindly advised to stay away from the Range area for the period of the shooting exercise, the statement stressed.

 

In view of the above, Headquarters 3 Division hereby informs the general public, particularly residents of Miango in Bassa Local Government Area, to keep off the Exercise Area. “While the sound of gunfire may be heard during the aforementioned days, we kindly request you do not panic, as this is a planned and controlled military activity,” it pointed out.

 

“Therefore, it is humbly requested that all media outlets please disseminate this important information to the public for their awareness and safety. Additionally, it would be appreciated if this message could be translated and shared in local languages to ensure comprehensive understanding within the community.

“Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in promoting public safety. Please accept the assurances of the General Officer Commanding’s esteemed regards,” the statement further posited.
