The International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Aswan Forum has announced the appointment of a former Minister of External Affairs, Ibrahim Gambari as its board member.

Gambari is one of five African leaders representing the African Union (AU) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), as well as global eminent personalities, who will provide strategic direction and oversee organisation of the forum.

The Aswan Forum is the first platform in Africa, which seeks to provide strategic direction in addressing the linkages between peace and development, and champion African solutions, through the strengthening of policies, among others.

The International Advisory Board is an addition to an Egyptian National Coordination Committee, led by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for organising the Forum.

Meanwhile, the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, grounded in Agenda 2063, will be inaugurated on December 11 and 12, 2019 by President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

It will hold yearly and is expected to bring together heads of states, governments, regional and international organisations, financial institutions, private sector, and civil society, among others.
