Atiku, Okowa Mourn Ex-SGF Ekaette

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the passing of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Ufot Ekaette, at 80 years, as a national loss.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the passing of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Ufot Ekaette, at 80 years, as a national loss.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 polls eulogised the ex-SGF as “a loyal and patriotic Nigerian, a meticulous technocrat and trustworthy public servant, who truly served his country to the best of his talent and ability.”

Similarly, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed grief over the incident.He said the demise of the former minister was a tragic loss to the Niger Delta and Nigeria, given his invaluable contribution to nation-building. 

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba yesterday, Okowa described late Ekaette as a top-notch public administrator who had a brilliant career in the Federal Civil Service, rising to become a permanent secretary.

Condoling with the Ekaette family, the government and people of Akwa Ibom, Okowa recalled Ekaette’s outstanding contribution in entrenching lasting peace in the Niger Delta as former SGF and pioneer Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
