A group, Youth and Students Advocates for Development Initiatives (YSAD) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to expedite action in checkmating extortion and brutality of road users by security officers, especially in the South East.

Leader of YSAD, Obinna Nwagbara, who made the call in a statement made available to The Guardian, yesterday, warned that if the menace was allowed continue, members of the public, will again, revolt to fight for their rights.

Stressing that the Federal Government and IGP should strive to avert another #EndSARS experience, Nwagbara said it was unfortunate that extortions had continued on the nation’s roads, as perpetrators go about their nefarious activities in full glare of the public.

“From Aba to Umuahia, Enugu to Nsukka, Okigwe to Owerri, Owerri to Port Harcourt, Aba to Ikot-Ekpene and other major roads in the region, a lot of man-hours are lost daily to multiple checkpoints set up just to extort comuters,” he said.

He also lamented that scores of lives have been lost at various checkpoints in the last few years, as trigger-happy security officers shoot at those who fail to give them money, adding that in spite of several orders to dismantle such illegal checkpoints, the menace had continued to worsen.
