Awoye appointed acting CMD of neuropsychiatric hospital in Kwara

As part of efforts to officially kick off medical activities at the newly established Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNH), Budo Egba, Kwara State, the Federal Government has approved the appointment of Professor Baba Awoye as the acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the establishment.

Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, representing Kwara Central, facilitated the hospital project. The appointment of Awoye as the institution’s pioneer CMD in a letter from the Ministry of Health dated December 30, 2021, took effect on January 1, 2022.

The letter reads: “I write to convey the approval of the Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, for your secondment to oversee the affairs of the newly established Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Budo Egba, pending the appointment of a substantive medical director for the hospital. Your appointment takes effect on January 1, 2022.”

The letter also confirmed that the CMD of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, had been mandated to release, along with the acting CMD, some medical officers, such as consultant psychiatrists, psychiatrist nurses, pharmacist/technicians, medical laboratory scientists, clinical psychologists, social health workers, as well as administrative officers and accountants, to ensure the smooth take-off and of healthcare services in the hospital.

Prof. Awoye, until his latest appointment, was of the Department of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin.

He was born 52 years ago at Ogbondoroko Village in Asa Local Council of Kwara and had his primary school at LSMB School, Ogbondoroko. 

He is a recipient of many honours, a member and fellow of several bodies and had held different leadership positions among which is Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kwara chapter.
