Governor Muhammadu Badaru of Jigawa

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Garba Kareka’s continued absence from Dutse, the state capital, has been frustrating governance and its activities, a situation stakeholders have described, as ‘unfortunate.’

The Guardian learnt that the development was not peculiar to the governor and speaker, but also members of the state cabinet, since the governor hardly sees his commissioners in official functions, which had almost grounded the administrative functions in the state.

Also, most government activities have been grounded in ministries, departments and agencies, a situation observers said had thwarted businesses and bank’s operation in the state.

They added that Governor Badaru’s style of leadership had earned him several names as ‘visiting governor’ or ‘Baba Mai Calculator,’ while others refer to him as ‘due process’ because of his financial prudence, whereas others have been lamenting the situation since it had brought government activities to a standstill, leaving only few officers around to offer skeletal services.

Commenting on the issue, Comrade Liman Auyo, said it was regrettable to vote a ‘businessman’ as governor of Jigawa State, adding: “This man is a businessman. How do you expect a successful administration from a businessman?

“A successful administration can only thrive in the hands of a competent administrator and not a businessman, who only knows the addition and subtraction of monetary value of his businesses and not administration, since it is not his line of professionalism.”

But a supporter of APC in the state, Shehu Maranjuwa, argued that only the greedy politicians and opposition elements castigate Badaru, as his absence had nothing to do with state functions.

He insisted that Badaru’s absence could not disrupt any state government functions, as things were moving accordingly through a properly laid down procedure.

It would be recalled that since his nomination as Chairman, Contacts and Mobilisation of the APC National Secretariat, Governor Badaru hardly stays in Jigawa to effectively oversee state functions.

Political pundits insist that the governor only visits the state occasionally, thereby making people to address him as “visiting governor’ since he only come to the state when he has functions and after which he usually jet out until another function.

All efforts to reach either the state Head of Service (HoS) or Badaru’s media aides for comment and reactions to his alleged absence and lack of commitment to matters of state importance, proved abortive.
