Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has stressed the importance of unity in the North as a solution to the numerous challenges facing the region.

Babangida made the remarks while hosting officials of the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.

The delegation was led by Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, former Governor of Sokoto State and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the movement, accompanied by Co-chairperson Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed and Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Idris.

The former Military President praised the efforts of NSYEI, urging the group to work diligently toward uniting the North and promoting unity across the country. “Only through unity can the North overcome its numerous challenges,” Babangida said, describing the establishment of the Northern Star movement as both commendable and timely.

He also encouraged the movement to remain steadfast in pursuing its noble objectives.

Earlier, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa traced the history of the movement, stating that it was established to unite the North and advocate for the legitimate interests of the region.

In their separate remarks, Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed and Dr Abdullahi Idris underscored the need for unity among the diverse peoples of the North, asserting that such solidarity is crucial for the region to pursue its goals within Nigeria’s federation effectively.

They expressed gratitude to Babangida for his support and encouragement, pledging their commitment to upholding the movement’s objectives and making a positive impact on the region.
