Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has announced that N1,733,435,201.17 has been expended on rural and urban road projects across the state. Mohammed said this during yesterday’s 60th independence anniversary celebration with youth and women groups, promising good governance ahead. Youths and women, he added, are vital members of the society and hope of Nigeria’s future.

“Our youths are our tomorrow and we must invest in them. Many of them have finished studying various courses in the universities, but we have been unable to employ them. It is a burden on us. We must make sure that we employ reasonable number of them within and outside this government,” he said while applauding women for their resilience and doggedness in trade to boost the nation’s economy.

IN Kogi State, Governor Yahaya Bello said his government would continue to pay attention to human capital development and economic diversification, especially through agriculture.

The governor gave this indication in a broadcast to commemorate the independence celebrations yesterday. “Kogi is blessed with plenty of land and water resources suitable for agriculture,” he noted.

Various programmes have also been developed to get willing and able Kogi citizens to take up farming or any other branch of agriculture they may be interested in, he added.

On the devastating effect of flood in the state, he said: “As the rains intensify around this time, every year we experience heavy flooding of communities in nine councils by River Niger and River Benue. As usual, government is prepared to give succour to affected citizens and residents. We have set up camps for displaced people where food, medication and other essentials will be provided.”
