The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has announced plans to present a bill to the Bauchi State House of Assembly seeking to ban scavenging, locally known as ‘Bola Jari’, in the state.

Speaker of the Youth Assembly, Sani Danaudi Mohammed, disclosed this while leading a delegation to honour the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, as a Patron of the Assembly.

According to Mohammed, the bill—currently being drafted—aims to address the negative impact of scavenging on young people in Bauchi State.

“We believe that banning ‘Bola Jari’ is a necessary step toward protecting the welfare and future of young people in Bauchi State,” he stated.

He further stressed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the bill is passed, adding, “We look forward to working with the Bauchi State House of Assembly to ensure the passage of this important bill.”

The event, held at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, was attended by top government officials, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.

Mohammed expressed gratitude for Adamu’s support, saying, “We are honoured to have him as our Patron and look forward to working closely with him to advance the interests of young people in our state.”

Dr. Yakubu Adamu, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, thanked the Youth Assembly for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to youth development.

He assured the Assembly of his continued efforts to support initiatives that empower young people and promote good governance in Bauchi State.

Following the ceremony, a meeting was held between the Youth Assembly of Nigeria and Dr. Adamu, where discussions centred on collaborative efforts for youth development and policy advocacy.
