Bayelsa begins campaign on safe motherhood
The Bayelsa State government has inaugurated a sensitisation campaign committee to spread the message of the Safe Motherhood Initiative it launched at the maiden summit on Infant and Maternal Mortality recently.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the committee was responsible for taking the Safe Motherhood message to every community in the state.
“We will be working with the Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Care Board. We will take this message to every community. We are going to deploy every means available to us, whether conventional or unconventional. But focus would be on the unconventional, because we need to get this message to everybody if we have to,” he said.
On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, lauded Governor Seriake Dickson for approving the campaign, saying the committee would go to every household to identify their health status.
Chairperson of the State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs. Victoria Denenu, described the assignment of the committee as very important.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the chairman, Mr. Chris Odi, appreciated the honour granted them to serve and promised to diligently carry out the assignment.
