Bayelsa: Peaceful, parallel congress
The crisis rocking the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got messier, yesterday, as peaceful, but parallel congresses were held across the local government councils of the state.
Though the anticipated violence did not materialise, a faction of the party led by former Deputy Governor, Nestor Ibinabo, declared that both the ward and local government congresses held by former governor and leader of the party in the state, Timpre Sylva, were ‘fake’.
Sylva and national officers of the party, led by Congress Committee Chairman, Adebayo Dawodu, had in a press conference at the party’s secretariat praised the violence-free congress.
But, at a counter press briefing, which took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press center, the faction led by Ibinabo and Preye Aganaba urged party faithful to discountenance the fake congress organised by the other faction.
