Bayelsa State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Projects (RAAMP) has said it is ready to implement programmes in various communities of the state.
Speaking at a sensitisation workshop in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, David Alagoa, declared that Bayelsa Government has met the criteria for the take-off of the programmes.
Alagoa maintained that the inauguration of the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) and the release of state counterpart fund by the state governor attest to the fact that agriculture is a major plank on which the prosperity of the state is anchored.
He stated that despite difficulties faced in the agricultural sector, which led to epileptic delivery of farm produce, RAAMP was set to rectify identified bottlenecks and sensitise stakeholders in the rural communities, the ultimate beneficiaries of the projects.
He stated that the project would adopt a strategic approach towards sensitisation to bring a wider cross section of all stakeholders on the same page for the success of the programme.
He also pointed out that available statistics and data revealed that many farmers were losing about 60 per cent of their harvest because of lack of accessibility to market, adding that sensitisation would be carried out in all councils of the state.
