Bello urges politicians to play by rules
State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has called on politicians and other stakeholders to play politics by the rules, before, during and after the general elections.
Speaking during a symposium organised in his honour by Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi council, to showcase his achievements, Bello said: “This is the time to come together as a people to reposition the nation towards prosperity.”
He stressed the need for peaceful elections, foreseeing a bright future for Nigeria, despite its present challenges, which he described as surmountable.
While describing the media as partners in progress with government, the governor promised to maintain a robust relationship with journalists in state.
President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, called on journalists to engage in development reportage to ensure a successful 2023 general election.
While noting that Nigeria is already tensed, he urged stakeholders, including journalists, to avoid utterances and reports that could escalate the problem, but encourage a peaceful transition by being objective and trustworthy in their reports.
“If your report is not going to help deepen democracy in Nigeria, leave it. You must try to protect peaceful coexistence in the country at all times in your report. Nigeria is the only country we can call our own; we must, therefore, not destroy it,” Isiguzo stressed
Kogi NUJ Chairman, Adeiza MomohJimoh, explained that the symposium was geared towards x-raying Bello’s administration, calling all hands to be on deck in ensuring peaceful coexistence.
