Benue APC guber aspirant hails NWC over NASS primary review

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, has applauded the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for its handling of appeals arising from the recently concluded National Assembly primary elections, describing the decisions as a demonstration of justice, fairness and internal democracy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Kuraun said the party’s willingness to review petitions and take corrective action where necessary had strengthened confidence in the APC’s internal dispute resolution process.

He congratulated candidates who emerged from the Senate and House of Representatives primaries, expressing optimism that they would secure victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections.

Kuraun noted that the party’s actions had reinforced his belief that the APC remained committed to ensuring aggrieved members received a fair hearing.

He recalled that following the Benue governorship primary election, he submitted a petition alleging substantial non-compliance with the party’s guidelines, denial of due process and other irregularities that characterised the exercise.

According to him, repeated efforts by his legal team to submit the petition before the Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee were unsuccessful, forcing him to escalate the matter to the party’s national leadership.

He said the National Working Committee’s intervention in the National Assembly primary appeals had demonstrated that the party leadership was willing to address genuine grievances in the interest of justice and electoral success.

“Today’s development demonstrates that our party is prepared to listen to legitimate grievances and to take corrective action whenever necessary in the overall interest of justice, equity, transparency and electoral success,” Kuraun said.

The APC chieftain added that the decision showed that no individual’s interest was greater than that of the party, noting that the process would boost members’ confidence in the party’s commitment to fairness.

“It is gratifying to note that the National Working Committee has shown that no individual interest is greater than the collective interest of the party. By ensuring that genuine appeals receive fair consideration, the leadership has strengthened the confidence of party members across the country,” he stated.

Kuraun maintained that internal democracy remained the bedrock of every successful political party, arguing that providing aggrieved members with a credible avenue for redress would promote unity and strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.

He urged party members, supporters and stakeholders in Benue State and across the country to rally behind the decisions of the National Working Committee and work collectively for the success of all APC candidates in the 2027 polls.

“I therefore urge all APC members, supporters and stakeholders in Benue State and across Nigeria to close ranks behind the decisions of our party, remain united, and work tirelessly for the victory of all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections,” he added.

Kuraun also commended the APC leadership for what he described as exemplary leadership, expressing confidence that the party would emerge stronger through its commitment to justice, fairness and democratic principles.
