Benue State

Residents of Adzege community in Logo Local Council of Benue State say they have found the decomposing body of a missing policeman following an attack on the settlement by gunmen two weeks ago.

A source in the area told The Guardian that the corpse, hidden in a black polythene bag and discovered by the locals near Adzege in Tombo Ward of the council at the weekend, was reportedly conveyed in a white Hilux van to Makurdi.

Noting that the body had decomposed beyond recognition, he however, insisted that it was that of the last officer. Four of them were earlier declared missing by the state command.

Contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, described the alleged discovery of the officer’s body as a mere rumour, stating that it was unclear if the corpse was actually his.

He said: “Yes, we heard the rumour but we are not sure whether the body that was found is that of the missing policeman.”
