The Federal Government has set a three-year timeline for the completion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a major infrastructure project expected to improve transportation and boost economic activities across Nigeria’s coastal states.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, gave the timeline as construction continues on the 750-kilometre highway, which is designed to connect Lagos with Calabar through several states in southern Nigeria.

The project is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to coastal communities and create opportunities for businesses along the route.

With its scale and strategic importance, the highway remains one of the Federal Government’s major infrastructure investments under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

However, meeting the three-year target will depend on the pace of construction, funding arrangements and the timely execution of the different sections of the road.

Beyond reducing travel difficulties, the highway is expected to strengthen connections between commercial centres and coastal communities, potentially encouraging investment in trade, tourism and other economic activities.

As construction progresses, attention will remain on the government’s ability to deliver the project within the projected timeframe and ensure that its expected benefits reach communities along the coastal corridor.
