The Director-General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surv. Adamu Adaji, has reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and promoting trans-border cooperation across Nigeria’s internal and international boundaries.
In his New Year message addressed to staff members, border communities, and the Nigerian public, Adaji noted the Commission’s progress in 2024 and outlined an ambitious vision for 2025 centred on enhanced collaboration, innovation, and service delivery.
“The National Boundary Commission’s core mandate is the definition and demarcation of Nigeria’s international and internal boundaries and the amicable resolution of disputes where they exist,” Adaji stated.
“This vital role underpins our collective efforts to safeguard national unity, strengthen intergovernmental relations, and promote socio-economic development.”
Reflecting on 2024, Adaji acknowledged the Federal Government’s support, the dedication of NBC staff, and the cooperation of stakeholders as pivotal in achieving remarkable strides.
He urged the workforce to redouble their efforts in the new year, stressing that professionalism and commitment are key to sustaining success.
“As we face new challenges and opportunities in 2025, I urge you to approach your duties with renewed determination and a steadfast belief in our shared vision,” Adaji said.
To the general public, Adaji pledged continued partnership, stating that NBC understands the complexities of boundary management and remains committed to fostering dialogue, mitigating conflicts, and ensuring transparency.
“Together, we will continue to work towards peaceful borders and enhanced security for all Nigerians,” he assured.
He revealed plans for induction training for key members of State and Local Government Boundary Committees early in 2025.
Adaji also highlighted ongoing projects, including resolving lingering disputes, strengthening cross-border cooperation, and enhancing public awareness of the Commission’s work. These initiatives, he noted, align with NBC’s vision to build trust, deepen collaboration, and fulfil its mandate to the Nigerian people.
Expressing gratitude to stakeholders and partner agencies, Adaji reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to deliver results with fairness, equity, and accountability. “Our commitment to fostering peace, unity, and sustainable development is stronger than ever. Together, we will build a legacy of progress and cooperation that future generations can be proud of,” he concluded.
Efe Ovuakporie, Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit, in a statement on Thursday, quoted the DG as wishing for peace, prosperity, and progress for all Nigerians, reiterating the NBC’s role in shaping a harmonious and unified future for the nation.
